He previously served as a Process Engineer at Merck and as Senior Scientist at Emergent BioSolutions, where he led critical vaccine development efforts and served as the subject matter expert for the company’s BioThrax® anthrax vaccine. A practitioner of Six Sigma methodology, Dr. Wingerd was instrumental in improving production reliability and process efficiency for high-stakes pharmaceutical products.

Dr. Wingerd holds dual PhDs in Biology and Biochemistry, and is an accomplished inventor, patent holder, and CAD designer. His rare ability to fuse hard science with engineering precision makes him a critical asset in EDC’s mission to apply advanced, cross-domain problem-solving to defense innovation.
